Wheatgrass shots! Know the facts!

After wanting to go there for a long time now, I finally got an opportunity tonight to go to one of the juice shop chain that claims to offer healthy boost drinks and frozen items. There were many options available - orange/cranberry juice, smoothies, wheatgrass shots...Having read the last word, I somehow wanted to try it out. I order for one (with cranberry) and sat down.

While I was expecting a regular glass full of the mix, two small glasses (similar to those in which tequila shots are served) were placed on my table. I looked up at the waiter and asked for suggestion...."How do i drink this?" and he replied.."wheatgrass shot in first and then cranberry shot..."!! I executed it to near-perfection and loved it. I was handed over a note that details "good ness" of the WG (wheatgrass) juice. I was happy to have gulped some good drink today! Without second thoughts, I decided to pour this drink into me whenever possible.

Out of curiosity, I was googling to know more about the "roots" of WG and whether the claimed benefits (of detoxification or greater nutritional value) are true. Claims (of detoxifying properties and nutritional values) were totally correct, I was taken aback to know that this WG SHOT could also cause "nausea" and "extrement irritating reactions in the body"!!

A little more search....and I find an alarming report. WG had traditionally been grown in trays. The fund is simple: take a tray, have some soil in it, sow the seeds and allow those to sprout into little shoots. However there are certain seeds that do not germinate i.e. flop and "molds" form on these seeds. In some cases these molds are absorbed by the "good-ones. If these plants are consumed, results could be from mild nausea to respirator problems to anything that a fungi could cause in homo sapiens.

So, next time you "gulp" a WG shot and feel nauseous, run to your doctor and do not think "cleansing is in progress"!!
